Reece Walsh Magic: Broncos Revive World Club Challenge 2026 vs Hull KR (2025)

Get ready, rugby league fans! You're in for a treat as the Brisbane Broncos are heading to England to revive the World Club Challenge, bringing the magic of Reece Walsh back to the UK!

There were whispers that this epic clash between the NRL and Super League champions might be benched for a second year in a row. This was due to the English champions, Hull Kingston Rovers, having to play in Las Vegas to kick off their 2026 season.

But, hold onto your hats! The Broncos have stepped up, agreeing to journey to the United Kingdom in February 2026 to battle it out for the title of the world's best rugby league club.

And this is the part most people miss... The most likely venue for this showdown is MKM Stadium, the home ground of Hull FC. Why? Because it boasts a capacity of 25,000, significantly more than Hull KR's home ground, which holds only 11,000 fans.

But here's where it gets controversial... This match marks the third World Club Challenge in just six years. Last year, Penrith couldn't participate due to commitments in Vegas, and the 2020 (Storm vs. St Helens) and 2021 (Penrith vs. St Helens) clashes were canceled because of COVID-19. This led to concerns that the concept, which started way back in 1976, was slowly fading away due to the logistical hurdles of bringing the top teams from different hemispheres together.

However, the upcoming match is a go, thanks to the Broncos' willingness to travel. This is part of their preparations to defend their title. Broncos coach Michael Maguire hinted at the club's interest after their grand final victory over Melbourne, mentioning it was a match they were keen on if schedules allowed. This will be Maguire's third time coaching in a WCC, having previously led Wigan in 2012 (losing to St George Illawarra) and South Sydney in 2015 (beating St Helens).

It's also another chance for Hull KR coach Willie Peters to shine on the big stage. Peters is seen as a future NRL coach after leading Hull KR to the “triple crown” in 2025, winning the Super League grand final, the Challenge Cup, and the League Leaders’ Shield.

This Hull KR-Brisbane clash means English fans will have another chance to witness the incredible Reece Walsh in action. Walsh, who has taken the rugby world by storm, is a true superstar. He has been a fan favorite in England, playing a starring role in the visitors’ two wins. Brisbane-based Australian teammates Pat Carrigan, Gehamat Shibasaki, and Kotoni Staggs will also be returning to England.
